In the early 1980s, IBM was the reigning king of the computing world, and Apple was the scrappy underdog just scraping by. Apple took advantage of the Super Bowl’s highly coveted advertising spots to promote compare IBM to Big Brother from the George Orwell novel 1984.

Although there have been a few missteps, Apple has been more or less among the industry leaders ever since. The company is known for its innovative design breakthroughs, as well as its intuitive user interface. What the computers might lack in raw processing power they generally make up for with charm and durability.
